This was another class assignment my first year in college. As the opening assignment of an art design class, I was instructed to recreate an emotion/feeling with no words or imagery, purely shapes and colors. I felt that nostalgia was outside the normal handful of emotions most would choose, so I went out a bought 3 magazines, and started creating, zero plan for anything specific. I wanted this to be extremely abstract, but clear in its concept. I took a night to feel nostalgia, and get a sense of how it made me feel. It felt like ripples in my memory, which is visually what inspires the piece most. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what is the key element of this one. Perhaps pay attention to the shades, and the relationship between the shades and the space it is in, where the ripples lay specifically. Between the texture, color, and medium, it all comes together to convey the emotion and title of the piece, “nostalgia.”
